CMRI represented at Bio International Convention

NSW’s international reputation in advanced therapeutics was the topic for discussion when Children’s Medical Research Institute’s Professor Ian Alexander spoke at the Bio International Convention in San Diego (BIO 2022) this week.

Professor Alexander is head of CMRI’s Gene Therapy Research Unit, a joint initiative of Children’s Medical Research Institute (CMRI) and The Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network (SCHN).

He was part of a group sponsored by the NSW Office for Health and Medical Research to highlight the incredible capabilities in NSW.

Other speakers from NSW included Ms Anne O’Neill from NSW Health, Dr Laura Collie from NSW Ministry for Health, Professor Anthony Kelleher from Kirby Institute and Professor David Thomas from Garvan Institute of Medical Research.

They spoke about their different areas of expertise from gene therapy to RNA therapeutics and precision cancer medicine and how NSW can move from bench to bedside.

“The session went very well with good attendance from industry delegates with strong positive feedback,’’ Professor Alexander said. “We also had many Australians in the audience who showed strong interest in increasing engagement with the NSW advanced therapeutics ecosystem.’’

Health Minister Brad Hazzard also joined the NSW contingent.
